Through interviews with the First Lady and many of her close friends, we chart a life that began in Midland, Texas. Introduced by friends, George W. Bush and Laura Welch marry after a three-month whirlwind romance.
Barbara and Jenna, their twin daughters, are born after a difficult pregnancy and after having briefly considered adoption. But Laura faces another challenge: George’s excessive drinking is threatening their marriage.
As a First Lady, one thing is for sure, her passions will remain the same: literacy and education, and for now the elementary school teacher can work in a national arena.
