From the files of the FBI’s Major Theft and Transportation Unit -- the first time that full access has been given to these new crime stoppers and their techniques, at a time when the loss of commerce (and often lives) to criminal activity is estimated to be 40 billion dollars. We feature four transportation crimes and the successful conclusion of each case:
HOT WHEELS: the FBI’s undercover operation and take-down of a car thief ring, right before our eyes, in Los Angeles, when an agent posing as a businessman learns the car thieves’ craft, their patterns of behavior, and beats them at their own game.
THE BRACKEN GANG: jewel thieves practice their smash-and-grab robberies at stores across the country, with the kingpins taking airplanes, and their hired hands the bus! But the FBI and LAPD nab the traveling Bracken Gang after one botched heist leads to a talkative girl friend, and another to a thief’s death; also a view of the country’s second largest jewelry mart (Los Angeles) and its mysterious trade.
MISSILES: In Miami, two clever investigators nab car smugglers in the act, and thwart their bigger scheme to import shoulder missiles into Florida; the key investigator, a seasoned Miami cop, wins the role as supplier and fence, because he speaks the smugglers’ languages: Lithuanian and Russian.
News footage, and exclusive surveillance and “caught-on-tape” footage enhance these stories and sprees that take us across the nation, as we track the world’s best cops and investigators of transportation crimes.
