What is our fascination with peeking behind police lines and yellow tape? For some it is mere voyeurism. For others, it is a way to emphasize with the victim, or to play detective. Now we explore the top crime scenes, where arrests were made, plots hatched, unsolved mysteries remain to this day, or where shoot-outs ended criminal sprees.

1. Hollywood Crime Scene: Celebrities - Marilyn Monroe, John Belushi and Dorothy Stratten. The mystery surrounding their shortened lives leaves us wanting to see and know more. Maybe if we can see the spot where the crime occurred, we can figure out why it happened.
“Hollywood Crime Scenes” visits the Chateau Marmont’s Bungalow #3 where John Belushi died of a fatal injection. Marilyn Monroe’s home on 5th Helena in Brentwood, retracing her last days and the mystery surrounding her death. Dorothy Stratten was the girl-next-door from Çanada who, in August of 1980, became Playboy’s Playmate of the Year. But she couldn’t prevent her husband’s jealous rage and murder at his hands.

2. Hollywood Crime Scene: Killers - Evil guru Charles Manson, Lana Turner’s murdered boyfriend and obsessed fan Robert Bardo. What do they have in common? They all tell tales of men destroyed by the lure of fame. “Hollywood Crime Scenes” visits the duplex in West Hollywood where actress Rebecca Schaeffer was stalked and murdered by obsessed fan, Robert Bardo. Traveling further west to Beverly Hills, uncovers Lana Turner’s lover, the notorious mobster Johnny Stompanato, who was stabbed to death by Turner’s daughter. Then, on to the most famous murderer himself, Charles Manson. His gang murdered Sharon Tate and her guests.

3. Crime Scene: Great Heists - D. B. Cooper became a legendary outlaw after pulling off a robbery in 1971 that would make Bill the Kid’s jaw drop. Every November since then, hundreds of people have gathered to celebrate and sing songs about one of America’s most notorious unsolved crimes – when D. B. Cooper took $200,000 in ransom money and jumped out of a commandeered jet 10,000 feet above Washington State. He hasn’t been heard from since.
The Gardener Museum in Boston was the site of one of the greatest art thefts of all time. In fewer than 90 minutes, 13 pieces of art, including paintings and sketches by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas and Manet, valued at $300 million were ripped from their frames by two men dressed as Boston police officers. Although hundreds of FBI agents have worked on the case since 1990, investigators say they see no sign of a break.

4. Crime Scene: Murder of Versace, Bundy and Stayner - The famed Miami Beach, Florida is the site of the murder of Gianni Versace. Versace was credited with drawing other fashion designers and luminaries to this now wildly popular Atlantic Ocean resort area and fueling its transformation into a fashion center and tourist Mecca. Versace was not a celebrity that lived in isolation. He was frequently seen along Ocean Drive or Lincoln Road. And so Andrew Cunanan could get close enough to fire a fatal shot.
Ted Bundy. Good looking. Charming. Confident. And evil. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington but he didn’t limit his killing to that state. He traveled from city to city inflicting his rage upon young women. Authorities caught up with him several times, but he always managed to escape. When he killed in Florida, authorities finally caught him.
Corey Stayner defiled a national park to take the lives of four women. He first three on vacation in Yosemite – a mother, her daughter and a foreign exchange student. Stayner watched their every move, made them beg for their lives and then murdered them, stuffed them in their car and burned their bodies. He even caught a cab back to work. The next to die, a naturalist. She loved living in the woods alone. It would be her downfall. When Stayner finally told his chilling tale in a confession to a TV reported, he talked about wanting to kill women since he was a young boy.
