Every summer, some French regions are victims of droughts, which suppose that some towns have to revisit their water supply. As far as the authorities concern it is our day to day consumption which is the cause. However it seems more likely that the real cause is due to the farming industries, especially corn cultivations. Corn needs a lot of water in order to grow. And the EU has encouraged farmers to cultivate corn by giving them considerable financial help. In order to benefit these helps, farmers have to justify their water consumption, which farmers pay less for than any other consumer. It’s an absurd situation, which is now clearly denounced by associations. Produced for Canal + Lundi Investigation
