JOHN PAUL II’s VATICAN

Director : The Donna Kanter Company | Category : Documentary |

The Vatican is the world's smallest sovereign nation, yet one of the most powerful. Its leader, Pope John Paul II, is Europe's last absolute monarch, but a man elected by his peers. He carries one of the most awesome burdens: the spiritual care of more than a billion people.
It is inside the Vatican where we find its soul. And where just 500 people work in Vatican City and serve Pope John Paul II. They have their own passports, post office, bank, and even license plates.
Now, we go beyond the walls of St. Peters Square to see the Vatican from the inside, and where no two days are ever the same. We will witness the preparations for, and ordinations of, new priests or cardinals. We will travel through the secret archives, and to off limits rooms in the Vatican Museums. We will meet the Swiss Guards who protect the Pope, the Cardinal whose sole job is to maintain the safety of the Basilica, Pope John Paul II's personal photographer, artisans who are restoring Raphael's frescoes and tapestries, plus caretakers and law makers.
We will follow pilgrims for the Easter festivities, and we will attend the October 19 beatification of Mother Theresa, during a month that celebrates Pope John Paul II’s 25th anniversary as the Holy Father.
